About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga

 

This is a full-time permanent position based in the Wellington office.

 

The Manager, National Support and Guidance, leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of national frameworks, strategies, and work programmes that support Learning Support services across Aotearoa.

You will lead a specialist team providing expert advice, ensuring alignment with national priorities, Ministry strategies, and Government outcomes.


This role is responsible for:

 

  • Leading integrated workplans and delivering strategic outcomes aligned to Ministry priorities
  • Developing and implementing national practice frameworks and specialist guidance
  • Providing expert advice on Learning Support practice, including professional learning and interventions
  • Collaborating across the Ministry and with sector partners to deliver consistent, high-quality services
  • Using data and insights to monitor effectiveness and inform improvements

 

Salary range: $121,139 - $181,709 per annum + KiwiSaver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

We’re looking for a strong and experienced people leader who can operate effectively in a complex, system-wide environment. You will be confident leading strategy, delivering outcomes, and building trusted relationships.

You will have:

  • Proven leadership experience in complex organisations
  • Experience developing and delivering strategies, frameworks, and work programmes
  • Strong capability in leading organisational change and continuous improvement
  • Experience building inclusive, high-performing teams and positive workplace culture
  • Ability to build and maintain effective relationships across government and the education sector
  • Strong analytical skills, including using data and insights to inform decisions
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and its application in public service delivery
  • The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

 
You will also offer:

  • Experience influencing system-level change and service delivery improvement
  • Knowledge of Learning Support or education sector practice (desirable)
  • Commitment to inclusive education and equitable outcomes for all learners.

Te Pou Taunaki | Learning Support focuses on enabling inclusive education and ensuring all ākonga can access the support they need to succeed. The team works nationally and regionally to develop services, frameworks, and resources that support learners, whānau, and educators.

 

The National Support and Guidance function provides specialist expertise and leadership to ensure consistent, evidence-based practice across the system and to support high-quality service delivery nationwide.
