About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga
As a Business Analyst in Te Pou Kōrero (Digital and Data) you’ll apply business analysis to support improvements to data systems, data platforms, and data sharing arrangements.
You’ll work with stakeholders, data analysts, and development teams to understand how data is created, shared, governed, and used — and help define clear business and user needs that support data and delivery teams.
Your contribution will help others make well informed decisions by clearly defining problems, information needs, and requirements.
This position is based in Wellington and ability to work in the office for team anchor days is required.
Salary range: $85,225 - $103,071 per annum plus KiwiSaver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

To thrive in this role, you’ll be a collaborative, curious, and pragmatic business analyst who brings energy and initiative to data related challenges. You’re someone who can balance detail with big-picture thinking and communicate clearly across diverse stakeholder groups.
You will also offer:
- Proven experience in business analysis within complex organisations
- Stakeholder engagement skills, and ability to build strong relationships
- A self-starter mindset with strong problem-solving skills and adaptability
- Resilience and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Excellent communication skills—written and verbal
- Experience in elicitation techniques including workshop facilitation skills
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage time effectively to meet deadlines
- Familiarity with Agile development practices, working in product teams or squads, and a product mindset
- A good understanding of privacy, ethics, and information security in relation to data and AI
- Demonstrated understanding of Te Ao Māori and a commitment to supporting Māori educational aspirations and achievement
- The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.
We work in a hybrid work environment, with modern office space provided in central Wellington and the option for flexible hybrid working. We offer access to Microsoft 365, Jira/Atlassian tools and have implemented Microsoft co-pilot. You’ll be joining a supportive Analysis & Design Practice team that provides coaching, mentoring and professional development.

Te Pou Kōrero | Digital and Data
Te Pou Kōrero | Digital and Data sets the digital and data direction that enables modern, efficient and seamless experience for those interacting with education services. The Group is accountable for the digital and data strategies and enabling capability plans, as well as maintaining the products and services.
The Group provides overall leadership for development and implementation of integrated education and digital and data solutions working closely with other parts of the education sector and Ministry, enabled by a strong evaluation and evidence base.
The Group has both internal and external customers – with a strong focus on innovation by exploring new technologies and overseeing research, testing and prototyping activities.
