About this role |Mō tēnei tūranga
 

The Director of Education leads the delivery of Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga | Ministry of Education services across the region by coordinating and facilitating organisational and sector efforts to create an education system that raises achievement for all New Zealanders. 
 

They are directly accountable for the performance of the area to deliver responsive solutions in order to realise the local education priorities and goals.


The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary based on their individual skills and experience.

About you | Mōhou ake

 

Your extensive experience as a senior leader within a large, complex organisation, preferably in service delivery will be crucial to your success within this role.
 

You will also offer:
 

  • A proven track record in change leadership and successful implementation and management of multiple and diverse programmes and services.
  • Understanding of the levers and challenges of educational achievement.
  • Proven track-record in delivering equitable outcomes for Maori, Pacific and/or people with special education needs.
  • Highly developed engagement and communication skills. 
  • Ability to work in a broad range of cultural settings, including tikanga Maori.
  • The ability to understand and apply the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and tangatawhenuatanga.
  • The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.
     

You will join a highly effective, collaborative team of regional leaders who collectively support the education sector across the central North Island.


About our group and team | Mātau rōpū ake 
 

Te Mahau | Te Tai Whenua (Central) provides leadership and integrated services to the education sector and others. This includes services such as learning support and education advice and regulation functions for schools and early learning services. We also share practice and learnings collaboratively with other Te Mahau and Ministry Groups to support insights driven guidance, design and policy.

We work closely with the Early Childhood and Schooling sectors, providers, and communities to provide support, expertise, and resources to help children and young people reach their full potential.
