Expressions of Interest are invited for a Māori Leadership Advisor role to cover the Waiariki Bay of Plenty rohe.  The role will be 12 months secondment or fixed term arrangement.  The candidate will be based in one of the Waiariki – Bay of Plenty regional offices of the Ministry of Education, Taupō, Whakatāne, Rotorua or Tauranga. 

 

We anticipate and welcome applications from established school/kura principals and those who have recently (preferably the last 12 months) held a principal position.

 

The Māori Leadership Advisor for the Waiariki Bay of Plenty rohe will report to the local regional Director of Education and be supported nationally by a Chief Advisor located in Te Puna Ohumahi Mātauranga | Education Workforce.

 

The Director will be seeking someone with skills and experience in working alongside other Tumuaki Māori to prioritise Māori culture, language and identity along with local knowledge of their region.

 

Mō tēnei tūranga | About this role

 

As a critical connector between and across school leaders, regional Ministry offices, other central education agencies the leadership advisor will provide localised support for Māori school leaders and support them to focus on developing the transformational leadership to meet the challenges of the future.

 

With the support of the Chief Advisor, the role will include facilitating collaboration across groups of Tumuaki, enabling the sharing of expertise across the schooling network. In addition, they will gather evidence to design a sustainable support role for Principals/school leaders that leads to and enables transformational change across the education system that will best meet the challenges ahead.

 

Mōhou ake | About you

 

We are looking for applicants that have that have already demonstrated a commitment to developing leaders either in their schools or by supporting other principals/Tumuaki.

 

You’ll have mana and proven credibility amongst your peers and other leaders across education especially in the region you are applying for.

 

You will possess an excellent understanding of contemporary school leadership issues, opportunities, and all school functions including finance, property, curriculum, learning support and PLD.

 

You will also offer specific to the regiona for which you apply:

 

  • An ability to collaborate with people from different backgrounds and levels.
  • A strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi Partnerships and demonstrated understanding of rangatiratanga and kāwanatanga relationships.
  • A willingness to help school leaders seek new ways of addressing the issues and challenges they meet.  

 

Your ability to facilitate outcomes through personal credibility, influence and provide a compelling rationale for change that will capture hearts and minds will be critical to the success of the programme.
