About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga

 

This is a fixed term opportunity for 6 months.

 

The Team Leader, Project Accounting plays a key leadership role in supporting the Ministry’s capital infrastructure programme through effective financial processing oversight. Leading a team of project analysts, you will ensure the accurate and timely setup, processing, and capitalisation of school property projects within the Ministry’s financial systems (K2/Helios).

 

This role champions financial accuracy, promotes best practice in project accounting, and ensures compliance with IPSAS and Ministry standards.


You will also contribute to ongoing system enhancements, reporting improvements, and support robust internal controls and audit readiness across the capital portfolio.

 

Salary band :M2. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary that reflects individual skills and experience.

About you | Mōhou ake

 

You will have proven experience in project or financial accounting, ideally within an asset-intensive or infrastructure-based organisation, along with leadership experience.

 

You will bring:

 

  • Strong capability in leading high-performing teams and driving continuous improvement
  • Demonstrated expertise in capital accounting processes and financial system operations (e.g., K2, Oracle)
  • Sound understanding of financial policy, capitalisation standards, and public sector reporting requirements (e.g., IPSAS)
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills to collaborate effectively across regional and national teams
  • Attention to detail, with the ability to analyse data, resolve complex issues, and uphold data integrity
  • Commitment to creating a positive, inclusive, and high-performing work environment
  • Experience managing workflows and reporting in high-volume environments, ensuring compliance and delivery to deadlines
  • The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

 

About our group and team | Mātau rōpū ake

 

Te Pou Rangatōpū | Corporate group is responsible for delivering essential Ministry-wide statutory and corporate functions. We enable the organisation to operate effectively and help fulfil the statutory and reporting obligations of Te Tāhuhu. The Capital Investments Team plays a critical role in supporting the capital delivery of school property projects. The team partners with delivery teams from project inception through to completion, providing financial insights, analysis, and advice at every stage. By ensuring strong financial oversight and alignment with strategic objectives, the Capital Investments Team helps drive successful outcomes and deliver value across the school property portfolio.
