We are seeking a Senior Analyst, Employment Relations to help lead the design and implementation of innovative processes that support employment relations, collective bargaining and pay equity workstreams.
In this role, you’ll provide thought leadership, develop high-quality tools and guidance, and deliver insights that inform decision-making across the Ministry. You’ll work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders, contributing to a team that values service, integrity, and equity.
Critical to your success will be your advanced analytical skills and passion for data – with proven experience turning data into sensible recommendations.
In this role, you will:
- Lead the design and implementation of data collection and analysis processes.
- Translate complex data into clear, actionable insights for stakeholders.
- Oversee development of templates, guidance materials, and project documentation.
- Provide quality assurance for key deliverables and IT tools.
- Design and implement cost modelling frameworks to support evidence-based decision making.
- Draft formal reports with clear analysis and defendable recommendations.
- Support pay equity and employment relations processes and workstreams.
- Build capability across the team through coaching and knowledge sharing.
Salary range: $100,296 - $121,490 per annum + 3% kiwi saver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

You thrive in complex environments and enjoy working collaboratively to solve problems and deliver high-quality outcomes.
To be successful in this role, you will bring:
- Proven experience in a complex organisation (government experience is a plus).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience handling large datasets.
- Excellent report writing and communication skills with the ability to develop strong knowledge of a subject matter to best deliver data story telling.
- Ability to collaborate, coach, and knowledge share to mentor others.
- Strategic thinking and the ability to see both detail and how it connects to the big picture.
- Experience in building relationships and partnerships to achieve shared outcomes.
- Proficiency in using MS Office suite.
- The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.
About our group and team | Mātau rōpū ake
Our group, Te Pou Ohumahi Mātauranga, leads the sector workforce employment relations, the relationship with Education Payroll Limited and we hold the responsibility for bargaining. We support the organisation so that the key role of the education sector workforce is integrated into their work programmes and services.
Our Employment Relations team works to ensure current and up to date conditions of employment are in place for people working in schools and kura around the country. We are a small but focused team of specialists who work closely with schools, education sector unions, and peak bodies to set conditions and resolve employment relations challenges within the education sector.
