About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga

 

The Privacy Advisor reports to and provides expert advice and support to the Manager, Privacy. This is a Wellington based, 12 month fixed term position. The role is situated in the wider Legal and Privacy team, the Privacy team develops and delivers a programme of work to lift the Ministry’s privacy compliance, capability and culture.

 

You’ll help develop and deliver clear, pragmatic advice to Ministry staff on the application of the Privacy Act and related legislation, including assessing privacy risks and identifying practicable mitigations. You’ll also provide input into the development and implementation of privacy processes and guidance that lifts the Ministry’s compliance with existing and incoming regulatory requirements.

 

Salary range: $74,815 - $90,347 per annum plus KiwiSaver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

We’re looking for a critical thinker with a sound knowledge of privacy and information management principles to contribute consistent, high-quality privacy advice.

 

This role suits someone early in their privacy career who wants to build practical experience in a complex public sector environment. You’ll work alongside experienced Senior Advisors and make a meaningful contribution from day one.

 

The Privacy team is a constructive and collaborative working environment. Advisors have a high level of trust and autonomy, backed up by supportive leadership.  To be successful in the role, you’ll be someone who’s motivated by building a positive, pragmatic privacy culture that enables good outcomes.

 

You will also have:

 

  • An understanding of how the public sector operates and how legal and policy requirements translate into operational practice.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, including the ability to work through complex and sometimes ambiguous issues.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.
