About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga
This permanent, full-time Wellington based role is responsible for leading, shaping and delivering strategies and work programmes that strengthen:
- The supply, capacity and sustainability of the Te Reo Māori workforce, and
- School leadership development and support across English medium and Kaupapa Māori and Māori medium (including reo rua and rumaki reo) education settings.
As Manager – Te Reo Māori Workforce & School Leadership, you will:
- Lead and deliver integrated strategies and work programmes supporting Te Reo Māori workforce supply
- Oversee school leadership development and support initiatives across all settings, ensuring alignment with system priorities
- Manage people, budgets, and delivery against agreed outcomes, milestones and risks
- Provide high quality advice to senior leaders, drawing on evidence, sector insight and data
- Build and maintain strong relationships with iwi, Māori organisations, Unions, peak bodies, education sector partners, and internal stakeholders
- Use data and insights to inform decisions, track impact, and adjust approaches as required
- Create a safe, inclusive and high performing team culture that supports learning, diversity and continuous improvement.
Salary range: $165,501 - $248,251 with mid-point $206,876 per annum + KiwiSaver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

About you | Mōhou ake
You are an experienced people and system leader, comfortable operating in complex environments and leading work that sits at the intersection of strategy, policy and delivery. Experience with education workforce issues, leadership development, or system‑wide capability building would be highly advantageous.
You will bring:
- Proven experience in people, workforce and operational leadership within a complex organisation
- Experience developing and delivering integrated strategies, work programmes and budgets
- A strong understanding of government and public sector processes
- Experience leading or managing significant change initiatives at a system or national level and at pace
- Ability to work under pressure across sector groups and Crown partners
- Experience working with Māori, iwi, hapū and Māori medium or kaupapa Māori contexts
- Strong relationship building capability across diverse partner and stakeholder groups
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including senior level advice
- Bring proven ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.
