About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga
We have two vacanicies for a Commercial Manager in our team.
The Commercial Manager Infrastructure will provide commercial management, guidance and oversight to enhance commercial activities across significant commercial agreements held by the Ministry. The Commercial Manager will primarily have responsibility for the Ministry’s commercial relationship with allocated strategic supplier(s), strategic panel arrangement(s) and other suppliers as required. The Commercial Manager will work collaboratively with School Property and Strategic Infrastructure Procurement, stakeholders and wider Ministry staff to build and maintain sustainable long term supplier relationships which deliver quality outcomes for the Ministry objectives. To be successful in this role you will have experience in a complex organisation (preferably Government), be highly developed in contract negotiation, responding to complex infrastructure requirements across the portfolio.
On a day-to-day basis, you will be:e
- Review and negotiate commercial agreements, ensuring alignment with business objectives and legal compliance.
- Develop and implement commercial strategies in collaboration with key business stakeholders, resolving performance issues in managing high value and/or politically sensitive areas.
- Ability to provide operational advice, consult with a broad range of senior stakeholders in the public and private sectors.
- Highly developed strategic and critical thinking skills and analytical capability.
- Demonstrate effective influence at senior levels, enjoy working collaboratively having the ability to inspire and motivate others.
- Take the lead on pricing strategies, while driving competitive tension and delivering value for money.
- Contributing to an environment of continual process improvement.
Salary range: $139,346 - $169,396 per annum + 3% kiwi saver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

About you | Mōhou ake
You will have the ability to build effective working relationships with key stakeholders and the ability to prioritise and multi-task in an environment where workloads can escalate quickly, and the challenges being navigated are often complex. Paramount is a positive and ‘can do’ attitude. Experience in the public sector and/or the construction industry would be advantageous (but not necessarily essential).
You will also offer:
- Strong commercial nous - an understanding of what drives good service value and how to identify and minimise key commercial risks.
- The ability to respond well to a dynamic environment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ideally a Tertiary or industry qualification in a related field (e.g. CIPS and/or a relevant tertiary qualification in Business or Accounting) or industry relevant experience.
- Some experience in data analysis and reporting.
- The ability to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.

Te Pou Rangatōpū | Corporate group is responsible for delivering essential Ministry-wide statutory and corporate functions. We enable the organisation to operate effectively and help fulfil the statutory and reporting obligations of Te Tāhuhu.
The Infrastructure Procurement team sits within Te Pou Rangatōpū | Corporate and is a vibrant and diverse team, where no two days are the same. We work together with our partners in School Property to deliver effective, inclusive procurement solutions, which support the Ministry’s vision that all schools have quality learning environments as part of a well-managed and sustainable portfolio. This all contributes to helping deliver equitable and excellent outcomes for every child in our education system.
