We’re looking for an Assistant Data Analyst who not only enjoys exploring data but also understands that data quality is the foundation of meaningful insights.
In this role you will help to deliver the Ministry’s collection, processing and reporting of strategically important data which supports our monitoring of the education system performance and provides insights which drive policy initiatives to improve outcomes for tamariki.
Our Assistant Data Analysts must identify and problem-solve data integrity issues, communicate effectively with stakeholders and deliver high quality data to deadlines.
In this role, you’ll work with a collaborative and supportive team supporting both internal and external stakeholders and will have a wide range of tasks and responsibilities across the collection, processing, and validating of data, conducting basic analysis, working with data suppliers to remedy any inaccuracies, and providing administrative support to both the team and the wider education sector.
Salary range: $60,879 - $72,999 per annum + 3% KiwiSaver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

About you | Mōhou ake
To be successful in this role, you will have experience of working with data, in particular the collection, cleansing and quality assurance of large datasets.
You will also bring:
- A good working knowledge of data-processing or statistical analysis software, such as SQL or SAS
- The ability to communicate clearly and build relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Strong organisation skills to prioritise your own workstreams
- Good knowledge of the schooling sector would be a distinct bonus
- The ability and willingness to adhere to the Public Service Standards of Integrity and Conduct.
About our group and team | Mātau rōpū ake
At Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga | Ministry of Education, we work to provide services and support nationally, regionally and locally to the education sector, and in some cases, directly to ākonga and whanau.
Te Mahau is a section of Te Tāhuhu o te Mātauranga which provides services and support for schools, kura and early learning services, sector leaders, ākonga and whānau. Te Pae Aronui is a group within Te Mahau established to help drive a focus on equity by connecting across the Ministry and providing expert support and services to Te Mahau’s regional teams.
The Schooling Data Team is responsible for data business processes such overseeing the secure collection of priority administrative data from schools as well as ensuring all elements of data quality of that data and efficient data processing. We also manage relationships with the many providers and users of that data.
