About this role | Mō tēnei tūranga

We are offering a fixed term, part-time position ( 0.8FTE).

Assistive technology (AT) is the specialised equipment and technology that enables students with learning support needs to be present in class, to participate in curriculum activities and to learn.

The Ministry of Education  provides funding to schools to purchase assistive technology for a student with learning support needs, to enable them to access the New Zealand school curriculum.

This role includes supporting schools to make applications for funding, to purchase assistive technology for students with additional learning needs, which is an integral part of Learning Support field work. Collating completed applications, and being actively involved in the National moderation process. Working collaboratively in supporting field staff to become familiar and confident with MoE’s assistive technology processes and procedures is a key part of this role.

Responsbilites of the Assistive Technology Coordinator include:

  • Work across the Greater Wellington education region from Norsewood to the Hutt Valley, and Wellington to Shannon and Foxton.
  • Provide information about MoE’s assistive technology policies and processes via workshops; one to one consultations or team meetings, by telephone and email.
  • Provide advice and guidance to the student’s support team (school staff and other specialists) as part of a collaborative approach in the assessment of the student’s need for assistive technology and to ensure technology is matched to appropriate learning objectives.
  • Manage a local MoE equipment trial pool to support assistive technology applications for students who are receiving learning support services. Other agencies taking a lead role in supporting a school’s AT application will arrange and provide trial equipment through their own resources e.g., RTLBs.
  • Consult with the Regional Assistive Technology Coordinator when the purchase of new trial equipment is required e.g., when non-standard classroom equipment and technology is purchased for trial.
  • Participate in MoE’s assistive technology moderation process. At a local level the ATC receives and reviews AT applications submitted for moderation, to ensure they meet required standards and take part in moderation.
  • Manage the administrative procedures required for processing and prioritising AT service requests, in consultation with service managers.
  • Participate to maintain and develop ongoing standards of practice through meetings and Professional Development workshops arranged by the Regional AT Coordinator

Salary range: $69,966 - $106,106 per annum + 3% KiwiSaver. The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience
