We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Web Developer to join a high-impact Development Practice supporting the Ministry’s Education Web platform. This role is central to scaling modern, accessible, and user-centred web services that underpin service delivery across the education sector.

 

You’ll work with cross-functional teams to deliver and evolve modern web applications, while also providing consultative support across product and delivery teams. Supported by Digital Practices, the team plays a key role in enabling smarter service delivery and better outcomes for learners, whānau, and educators.


Salary range: $100,296- $121,490 per annum plus KiwiSaver.  The successful candidate will be appointed at a salary which reflects individual skills and experience.

About you | Mōhou ake

 

You will demonstrate knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an understanding of Te Ao Māori and promote tikanga and Te Reo Māori. You will also have knowledge of, or a willingness to gain an appreciation of te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) as it applies in the public sector.

 

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

 

  • Prior experience within the New Zealand Government would be an advantage but not essential.
  • Proven experience developing modern web applications using technologies such as JavaScript/TypeScript and frameworks such as React, Angular or similar.
  • Proven experience delivering accessible web applications in line with the New Zealand Government web and technical standards and industry standards (e.g. WCAG)
  • Experience working with enterprise Content Management Systems (CMS), including Drupal, Silverstripe or similar
  • Experience working with agile delivery practices and DevOps, including version control and CI/CD pipelines

Matihiko | Digital holds the strategic lead on technology matters across the Ministry. This includes oversight of digital services in the Ministry, leading the cross-agency strategy ‘Connected Ako: Digital and Data for Learning’, enabling education system wide planning and investment in digital services, and ensuring the Ministry’s alignment with broader best-practice government digital and data direction and guidance.
